Blackwood Forest Official Trailer HQ

This is our Official completed Trailer. From my audience feedback I received a number of comment on my Facebook page for the campaign about my first edit of the trailer. Many agreed that the titles where lacking something, the insisted that I uses a voice over on my trailer to create a more Mysterious trailer. When editing I look my audience feedback on board applied there comment in to my trailer.

Overall felt that we have created a trailer that express the convention of a real film trailer.

Evaluation Q1 - In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media productions?

Evaluation Q2 - How effective is the combination of your production and ancillary text?

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?
TRAILER
My teaser trailer is targeted for a teenage audience and has a film rating of 15+. I did some extra research about our target audience by creating a questionnaire that I gave out to my target audience, my target audience began filling in the question with 2 or 3 of their friends, this was an advantage for me because I was getting better result. I felt that this method will be better as they are more likely to agree with each other on certain questions giving be a more accurate result.

The marketing campaign that I created was very successful. I used a number of promotional tool that could access nationally and globally my large target audience. I uploaded my teaser trailer on to Youtube which is a widespread website that I target audience use on a daily bases. Uploading it to Youtube allow me to receive global feedback. I also created a group on Facebook a social network site allowing my audience to join the group.  They can also view still images of when we when out to shoot for the trailer and the locations that we used and at the same time invite their friend to join the group.  My objective for the teaser trailer was to get the audience to create word of mouth via the social network. Many films have used the social network because these sites are very popular and people can talk about what they enjoy turning a national campaign into a global campaign for the film. However at one stage this method started to down on me because I was not getting as much feedback as I wanted so I change the strategy. I when out to my audience in person and got then to watch the trailer then give me feedback while I video recorded their response. This was a very good because I received a lot of feedback.

The short 90 seconds teaser trailer creates a sense of mystery and enigma. I purposely made the trailer in a way that they only see a few shots of my protagonist (the little girl), this will encourage people to watch the film because they want to know more about the little girl and how she came back from the dead.  I believe this will create suspense making the audience want to discuss it with each other and make them want to find out more online, this is a clear example of synergy, the promotion of a production through other media platforms. This makes it easier for me to achieve my target audience so when I release the film poster and the magazine they are more secure to give me positive or negative feedback.
Official Trailer:

FILM POSTER
The film poster expresses the main iconography and convention of a film poster. The main conventions that the audience should immediately see is the title of the film, the character and the release data. The dark colours that are used in my poster are very recognizable to the horror genre. When doing my research many current film posters do not use the iconic colour red in their poster so I adopted this method to my film poster.(http://year13ascoursework1.blogspot.com/2010/10/iconography.html
I wanted my audience to be drawn to it. The font used is very recognisable to the horror genre and appears to the younger generation. I used a font style that looked like it was written with a had brush. The audience can instantly relate to the young girl in the poster.

MAGAZINE
The magazine as an ancillary product mainly concentrates on the killer and her nature. I took a long shot of my actor in the middle of the forest with looked very dark and gloomy. I got a shot of her as with her head down with her hair over her face so you can only see a little bit of her face. This is the location where see starts her killer spree. I wanted the audience so see the main character so they could relate to her because she is young just like them, even though they see her they nothing is given away meaning the audience still do not know too much about the little girl. The genre is shown through my media products, as the images used are dark as well as the title of the film. I linked the layout of the poster to many different film covers like Total films, Empire and Film Fare
Magazine cover:

In terms of the title of our film, many conventional horror titles relate back to the past or most commonly named after an accession. For example Friday the 13th or a Halloween film. I also adopted this very convention when creating my title for my publicity campaign. I wanted to make the genre of the film clear so my audience will immediately recognize the name be able to link it to the horror genre. The Blackwood Forest suggest enigma using the word ‘black’ and forest also suggest that something is going to happen because not many films are based in a forest. It also connotes death.

In the trailer there was a good amount of narrative and footage. My trailer provided a simple story with little narrative, concentrating on introducing the characters and setting. I was influence my film trailer like, The Ring and Case 39.I wanted to follow the way they have done this in just giving the audience an insight into the nature of the girl who awoke from the dead and got her revenge.

Evaluation Q3 - What have you learn from your audience feedback?

To help me access the effectiveness and quality of the trailer, I collected audience feedback that will help be improve my evaluation as a publicity campaign. I began uploading my trailer, film poster and Film magazine on to a Facebook which is a very popular social network site that my target audience use to talk to socialise with friends and family. i though by using Facebook will help receive audience feedback.

When I upload the my production onto on to Facebook my target audience began to feedback on what they though of the publicity campaign. This helps with my assessment of my Trailer, Film Poster and Magazine Cover

Here are some if the comments below:

Although this method was very be effective, I only to gain a limited amount of comments on the Facebook page meaning I was not able to gather enough evidence. I had a good think and felt that the best way to get feedback was to go out to my target audience and get feedback. I uploaded my the trailer on to my mobile phone and showed it to a good number of people. I also recorded there responses. I asked many questions however the two main questions where that I asked wher 'What did you think of the trailer?' and 'Will you do and see the film?'

Here are the dominant comment that I received back from my audience:
- Engaging
- Great sound effects
- Looks professional / Very good editing
- Does not give anything away

From the feedback that I gained I can see that we have effectively created three great productions for our publicity campaign.
From the comments that we received I can see that we have create a teaser trailer that is really well edited and looked very professional meaning that we used the conventions of a teaser trailer that links back to our research and also used the editing software(iMovie) effectively. The genre of the trailer was easy identify by the production details and the sound effects that we used worked well within the trailer.
Our Unique Selling Point has also been highlighted by the audience as they like the use of a little girl as our the antagonist.

However there where some negative comment that I was given however this didn't discourage because I know that these comments will help me improve my trailer and the Publicity campaign as a hole.
Many did understand the title that we used, they though that it did not go with it. However many suggested the use of a voice over to go with the titles to would make it more much better. All of these comment will be taken on board, these are the comment that we will use to improve our trailer in our final edit.
Overall I feel assertive that our production fully serve the purpose as a marketing campaign.

Evaluation Q4 - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stage?

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stage?

All through the project, both in research and planning a wide range of media technology have been used to construct my three productions for my campaign.
Here are the main media technologies that I used in three simple sections

I began using filming equipment when we when out to shoot our trailer I used a still Cannon camera to take picture for our film magazine and poster and call take images to evidence our say our shooting for the trailer. I used a Sony video recorder to shoot my footage. I then used a Firewire that connected the video camera to the computer. I used an apple mac computer for the duration of my work however unavailability of one meant I had to use a PC. I then import the footage on to iMovie Premier which is an editing software installed on the Apple Mac computers. This is where we began editing, cutting up the different bits of footage and putting it into chronological order. I added my non –copyrighted music sound effects and added a voice over on my titles. In my second and final edit of my trailer I created my own sound effect on music software call logic Pro 9 with is a music producing software, I am very familiar with this software because I use it often.

Once I edited the trailer and the sound voice over added, the footage was exported as a QuickTime file, the video was converted in to web format reducing the size of the video. This means that the video can be view online. The Still images are also manipulated in Adobe Photoshop were they were resized, crop, adjusted then convert into JPEG file so they can be viewed online. These image where used for the production of the film poster and magazine.
I also used Photoshop to create my Magazine cover and Film poster; I also created by production detail for my teaser. Once I had completed the production details in Photoshop I then had to convert them into JPEG then in import them into iMovie Premier.

All three of my productions for my campaign where upload onto an online blog website called Blogger where my evaluations in video, images, audio and text can be observed. This is a very modern way in accessing media, very popular with the technological side of our target audience. This is a big advantage to my marketing campaign because it can be accessed by my target audience globally easily increasing my chance of having a bigger fan base.  The social network site like Facebook and Youtube are also a great asset, this mean that information prior to the film’s release could be retrieved via the target audience through a website used repeatedly by them.

Any video that I want to upload on to my blog will first be converted by blogger that posted. If there are any faults with the upload then the alternative will be to upload it on to Youtube then take the link and post it on your pages.

Instead of writing so much text blog my evidence in many different way to try and sport my blog I created PowerPoint  presentation, I then upload the onto it on to Slideshare and Prezi websites that allows you to present presentations online I also used. I also used Flickr to upload my images of my(script, shooting schedule, shot list) to also shorten my blog, creating a more dynamic way of viewing lengthy information, making it easier to take in.

Part of the audience feedback was to gather feedback by collecting comments from YouTube and Facebook, using the internet as part of a marketing campaign is a current way of accessing a specific target audience, in my case, an audience of teenagers and young adults who will be frequent users of the internet.

Voice Over Script For Trailer

From my audience feedback our audience said that they didn't understand the titles that we used. So we decided to add a voice over to the title so that the audience will understand the title properly. So I created a voice over script. I then added the voice over while I was editing the trailer. I volunteered to do the voice over.
Now that the voice over is added, I believe the audience will be able to understand the trailer from start to finish.

Evaluation Of Our Official Magazine

Final Film Magazine Cover

This is our Final Film Magazine cover for our publicity campaign. looking back at our research I can see that we have used the conventions of a magazine very well. We had created 2 magazine cover before hand, however we had some disagreements with each other however we created a Fronter cover that we felt was  very good and would attract our target audience. We used Adobe Photoshop to create our front cover.

We called our Magazine 'BritCinema' because we wanted our audience to see that the magazine originates from the UK however the Magazine that can be marketed as a National and global magazine. the image that we used was one of the picture we took when we went out to shot our trailer. I then upload image on to Photopshop and began creating the Magazine. I followed the convention of a magazine. I noticed that the main characters where in front of the text making then stand out. After creating the font cover, I then uploaded it on to my Facebook page that I create for our film campaign.

Finished Film Poster

And finally the film poster. this is what our target audience will see. We want our audience to be drawn into the poster. We wanted the audience to be captured by the use of colour and the lay out that we used. I feel we used all the convention of a film poster that we gain from our research.

This poster uses generic conventions seen in horror such as the dark black faded effect depicting the conflict between good and evil and the red writing suggests danger and death. we chose a images that looked mysterious
linking to the genre of film. We chose a October as our release date because Halloween is within this mouth. It is also very popular for people to go watch horror films. by releasing the film during this mouth will give us a much higher audience number that in other mouths.

I faded the edges of the image in black I did this because I wanted the audience to immediately see our character in the poster. I made the title dark green because our title has the word 'Forest' in it so the green created a sense of nature and gave it gives earthy look.

Film Poster Production

When shot our footage for our trailer we also took a digital camera to take still images for magazine cover and film poster. Due to the absence of my peer Seyam because of illness I took the responsibility of continuing the production of our film poster. I took the images from Alex and the flat plan of the poster from Seyam and began creating. I used Adobe Photoshop to produce the poster. I follow the flat however I changed some of the colours that Seyam suggested.

This is the production of our film poster for the campaign in stages

Stage1: This is a little flat plan that I create so I could play with the arrangement of the poster

Stage 2:  I temporarily an image that I found so I could get a taster of what the finished product will look like.
