Evaluation Q2 - How effective is the combination of your production and ancillary text?

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?
TRAILER
My teaser trailer is targeted for a teenage audience and has a film rating of 15+. I did some extra research about our target audience by creating a questionnaire that I gave out to my target audience, my target audience began filling in the question with 2 or 3 of their friends, this was an advantage for me because I was getting better result. I felt that this method will be better as they are more likely to agree with each other on certain questions giving be a more accurate result.

The marketing campaign that I created was very successful. I used a number of promotional tool that could access nationally and globally my large target audience. I uploaded my teaser trailer on to Youtube which is a widespread website that I target audience use on a daily bases. Uploading it to Youtube allow me to receive global feedback. I also created a group on Facebook a social network site allowing my audience to join the group.  They can also view still images of when we when out to shoot for the trailer and the locations that we used and at the same time invite their friend to join the group.  My objective for the teaser trailer was to get the audience to create word of mouth via the social network. Many films have used the social network because these sites are very popular and people can talk about what they enjoy turning a national campaign into a global campaign for the film. However at one stage this method started to down on me because I was not getting as much feedback as I wanted so I change the strategy. I when out to my audience in person and got then to watch the trailer then give me feedback while I video recorded their response. This was a very good because I received a lot of feedback.

The short 90 seconds teaser trailer creates a sense of mystery and enigma. I purposely made the trailer in a way that they only see a few shots of my protagonist (the little girl), this will encourage people to watch the film because they want to know more about the little girl and how she came back from the dead.  I believe this will create suspense making the audience want to discuss it with each other and make them want to find out more online, this is a clear example of synergy, the promotion of a production through other media platforms. This makes it easier for me to achieve my target audience so when I release the film poster and the magazine they are more secure to give me positive or negative feedback.
Official Trailer:

FILM POSTER
The film poster expresses the main iconography and convention of a film poster. The main conventions that the audience should immediately see is the title of the film, the character and the release data. The dark colours that are used in my poster are very recognizable to the horror genre. When doing my research many current film posters do not use the iconic colour red in their poster so I adopted this method to my film poster.(http://year13ascoursework1.blogspot.com/2010/10/iconography.html
I wanted my audience to be drawn to it. The font used is very recognisable to the horror genre and appears to the younger generation. I used a font style that looked like it was written with a had brush. The audience can instantly relate to the young girl in the poster.

MAGAZINE
The magazine as an ancillary product mainly concentrates on the killer and her nature. I took a long shot of my actor in the middle of the forest with looked very dark and gloomy. I got a shot of her as with her head down with her hair over her face so you can only see a little bit of her face. This is the location where see starts her killer spree. I wanted the audience so see the main character so they could relate to her because she is young just like them, even though they see her they nothing is given away meaning the audience still do not know too much about the little girl. The genre is shown through my media products, as the images used are dark as well as the title of the film. I linked the layout of the poster to many different film covers like Total films, Empire and Film Fare

In terms of the title of our film, many conventional horror titles relate back to the past or most commonly named after an accession. For example Friday the 13th or a Halloween film. I also adopted this very convention when creating my title for my publicity campaign. I wanted to make the genre of the film clear so my audience will immediately recognize the name be able to link it to the horror genre. The Blackwood Forest suggest enigma using the word ‘black’ and forest also suggest that something is going to happen because not many films are based in a forest. It also connotes death.

In the trailer there was a good amount of narrative and footage. My trailer provided a simple story with little narrative, concentrating on introducing the characters and setting. I was influence my film trailer like, The Ring and Case 39.I wanted to follow the way they have done this in just giving the audience an insight into the nature of the girl who awoke from the dead and got her revenge.
