Blackwood Forest Official Trailer HQ

This is our Official completed Trailer. From my audience feedback I received a number of comment on my Facebook page for the campaign about my first edit of the trailer. Many agreed that the titles where lacking something, the insisted that I uses a voice over on my trailer to create a more Mysterious trailer. When editing I look my audience feedback on board applied there comment in to my trailer.

Overall felt that we have created a trailer that express the convention of a real film trailer.

Evaluation Q1 - In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media productions?

Evaluation Q2 - How effective is the combination of your production and ancillary text?

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?
TRAILER
My teaser trailer is targeted for a teenage audience and has a film rating of 15+. I did some extra research about our target audience by creating a questionnaire that I gave out to my target audience, my target audience began filling in the question with 2 or 3 of their friends, this was an advantage for me because I was getting better result. I felt that this method will be better as they are more likely to agree with each other on certain questions giving be a more accurate result.

The marketing campaign that I created was very successful. I used a number of promotional tool that could access nationally and globally my large target audience. I uploaded my teaser trailer on to Youtube which is a widespread website that I target audience use on a daily bases. Uploading it to Youtube allow me to receive global feedback. I also created a group on Facebook a social network site allowing my audience to join the group.  They can also view still images of when we when out to shoot for the trailer and the locations that we used and at the same time invite their friend to join the group.  My objective for the teaser trailer was to get the audience to create word of mouth via the social network. Many films have used the social network because these sites are very popular and people can talk about what they enjoy turning a national campaign into a global campaign for the film. However at one stage this method started to down on me because I was not getting as much feedback as I wanted so I change the strategy. I when out to my audience in person and got then to watch the trailer then give me feedback while I video recorded their response. This was a very good because I received a lot of feedback.

The short 90 seconds teaser trailer creates a sense of mystery and enigma. I purposely made the trailer in a way that they only see a few shots of my protagonist (the little girl), this will encourage people to watch the film because they want to know more about the little girl and how she came back from the dead.  I believe this will create suspense making the audience want to discuss it with each other and make them want to find out more online, this is a clear example of synergy, the promotion of a production through other media platforms. This makes it easier for me to achieve my target audience so when I release the film poster and the magazine they are more secure to give me positive or negative feedback.
Official Trailer:

FILM POSTER
The film poster expresses the main iconography and convention of a film poster. The main conventions that the audience should immediately see is the title of the film, the character and the release data. The dark colours that are used in my poster are very recognizable to the horror genre. When doing my research many current film posters do not use the iconic colour red in their poster so I adopted this method to my film poster.(http://year13ascoursework1.blogspot.com/2010/10/iconography.html
I wanted my audience to be drawn to it. The font used is very recognisable to the horror genre and appears to the younger generation. I used a font style that looked like it was written with a had brush. The audience can instantly relate to the young girl in the poster.
Film Poster:
http://year13ascoursework1.blogspot.com/2010/12/finished-film-poster.html
MAGAZINE
The magazine as an ancillary product mainly concentrates on the killer and her nature. I took a long shot of my actor in the middle of the forest with looked very dark and gloomy. I got a shot of her as with her head down with her hair over her face so you can only see a little bit of her face. This is the location where see starts her killer spree. I wanted the audience so see the main character so they could relate to her because she is young just like them, even though they see her they nothing is given away meaning the audience still do not know too much about the little girl. The genre is shown through my media products, as the images used are dark as well as the title of the film. I linked the layout of the poster to many different film covers like Total films, Empire and Film Fare
Magazine cover:
(http://year13ascoursework1.blogspot.com/2010/12/final-film-magazine-cover.html) (http://year13ascoursework1.blogspot.com/2010/12/evaluation-of-our-official-magazine.html)

In terms of the title of our film, many conventional horror titles relate back to the past or most commonly named after an accession. For example Friday the 13th or a Halloween film. I also adopted this very convention when creating my title for my publicity campaign. I wanted to make the genre of the film clear so my audience will immediately recognize the name be able to link it to the horror genre. The Blackwood Forest suggest enigma using the word ‘black’ and forest also suggest that something is going to happen because not many films are based in a forest. It also connotes death.

In the trailer there was a good amount of narrative and footage. My trailer provided a simple story with little narrative, concentrating on introducing the characters and setting. I was influence my film trailer like, The Ring and Case 39.I wanted to follow the way they have done this in just giving the audience an insight into the nature of the girl who awoke from the dead and got her revenge.

Evaluation Q3 - What have you learn from your audience feedback?

To help me access the effectiveness and quality of the trailer, I collected audience feedback that will help be improve my evaluation as a publicity campaign. I began uploading my trailer, film poster and Film magazine on to a Facebook which is a very popular social network site that my target audience use to talk to socialise with friends and family. i though by using Facebook will help receive audience feedback.

When I upload the my production onto on to Facebook my target audience began to feedback on what they though of the publicity campaign. This helps with my assessment of my Trailer, Film Poster and Magazine Cover

Here are some if the comments below:

Although this method was very be effective, I only to gain a limited amount of comments on the Facebook page meaning I was not able to gather enough evidence. I had a good think and felt that the best way to get feedback was to go out to my target audience and get feedback. I uploaded my the trailer on to my mobile phone and showed it to a good number of people. I also recorded there responses. I asked many questions however the two main questions where that I asked wher 'What did you think of the trailer?' and 'Will you do and see the film?'

Here are the dominant comment that I received back from my audience:
- Engaging
- Great sound effects
- Looks professional / Very good editing
- Does not give anything away

From the feedback that I gained I can see that we have effectively created three great productions for our publicity campaign.
From the comments that we received I can see that we have create a teaser trailer that is really well edited and looked very professional meaning that we used the conventions of a teaser trailer that links back to our research and also used the editing software(iMovie) effectively. The genre of the trailer was easy identify by the production details and the sound effects that we used worked well within the trailer.
Our Unique Selling Point has also been highlighted by the audience as they like the use of a little girl as our the antagonist.

However there where some negative comment that I was given however this didn't discourage because I know that these comments will help me improve my trailer and the Publicity campaign as a hole.
Many did understand the title that we used, they though that it did not go with it. However many suggested the use of a voice over to go with the titles to would make it more much better. All of these comment will be taken on board, these are the comment that we will use to improve our trailer in our final edit.
Overall I feel assertive that our production fully serve the purpose as a marketing campaign.

Evaluation Q4 - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stage?

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stage?

All through the project, both in research and planning a wide range of media technology have been used to construct my three productions for my campaign.
Here are the main media technologies that I used in three simple sections

I began using filming equipment when we when out to shoot our trailer I used a still Cannon camera to take picture for our film magazine and poster and call take images to evidence our say our shooting for the trailer. I used a Sony video recorder to shoot my footage. I then used a Firewire that connected the video camera to the computer. I used an apple mac computer for the duration of my work however unavailability of one meant I had to use a PC. I then import the footage on to iMovie Premier which is an editing software installed on the Apple Mac computers. This is where we began editing, cutting up the different bits of footage and putting it into chronological order. I added my non –copyrighted music sound effects and added a voice over on my titles. In my second and final edit of my trailer I created my own sound effect on music software call logic Pro 9 with is a music producing software, I am very familiar with this software because I use it often.

Once I edited the trailer and the sound voice over added, the footage was exported as a QuickTime file, the video was converted in to web format reducing the size of the video. This means that the video can be view online. The Still images are also manipulated in Adobe Photoshop were they were resized, crop, adjusted then convert into JPEG file so they can be viewed online. These image where used for the production of the film poster and magazine.
I also used Photoshop to create my Magazine cover and Film poster; I also created by production detail for my teaser. Once I had completed the production details in Photoshop I then had to convert them into JPEG then in import them into iMovie Premier.

All three of my productions for my campaign where upload onto an online blog website called Blogger where my evaluations in video, images, audio and text can be observed. This is a very modern way in accessing media, very popular with the technological side of our target audience. This is a big advantage to my marketing campaign because it can be accessed by my target audience globally easily increasing my chance of having a bigger fan base.  The social network site like Facebook and Youtube are also a great asset, this mean that information prior to the film’s release could be retrieved via the target audience through a website used repeatedly by them.

Any video that I want to upload on to my blog will first be converted by blogger that posted. If there are any faults with the upload then the alternative will be to upload it on to Youtube then take the link and post it on your pages.

Instead of writing so much text blog my evidence in many different way to try and sport my blog I created PowerPoint  presentation, I then upload the onto it on to Slideshare and Prezi websites that allows you to present presentations online I also used. I also used Flickr to upload my images of my(script, shooting schedule, shot list) to also shorten my blog, creating a more dynamic way of viewing lengthy information, making it easier to take in.

Part of the audience feedback was to gather feedback by collecting comments from YouTube and Facebook, using the internet as part of a marketing campaign is a current way of accessing a specific target audience, in my case, an audience of teenagers and young adults who will be frequent users of the internet.

Voice Over Script For Trailer

From my audience feedback our audience said that they didn't understand the titles that we used. So we decided to add a voice over to the title so that the audience will understand the title properly. So I created a voice over script. I then added the voice over while I was editing the trailer. I volunteered to do the voice over.
Now that the voice over is added, I believe the audience will be able to understand the trailer from start to finish.

Evaluation Of Our Official Magazine

Final Film Magazine Cover

This is our Final Film Magazine cover for our publicity campaign. looking back at our research I can see that we have used the conventions of a magazine very well. We had created 2 magazine cover before hand, however we had some disagreements with each other however we created a Fronter cover that we felt was  very good and would attract our target audience. We used Adobe Photoshop to create our front cover.

We called our Magazine 'BritCinema' because we wanted our audience to see that the magazine originates from the UK however the Magazine that can be marketed as a National and global magazine. the image that we used was one of the picture we took when we went out to shot our trailer. I then upload image on to Photopshop and began creating the Magazine. I followed the convention of a magazine. I noticed that the main characters where in front of the text making then stand out. After creating the font cover, I then uploaded it on to my Facebook page that I create for our film campaign.

Sunday 5 December 2010

Finished Film Poster

And finally the film poster. this is what our target audience will see. We want our audience to be drawn into the poster. We wanted the audience to be captured by the use of colour and the lay out that we used. I feel we used all the convention of a film poster that we gain from our research.

This poster uses generic conventions seen in horror such as the dark black faded effect depicting the conflict between good and evil and the red writing suggests danger and death. we chose a images that looked mysterious
linking to the genre of film. We chose a October as our release date because Halloween is within this mouth. It is also very popular for people to go watch horror films. by releasing the film during this mouth will give us a much higher audience number that in other mouths.

I faded the edges of the image in black I did this because I wanted the audience to immediately see our character in the poster. I made the title dark green because our title has the word 'Forest' in it so the green created a sense of nature and gave it gives earthy look.

Film Poster Production

When shot our footage for our trailer we also took a digital camera to take still images for magazine cover and film poster. Due to the absence of my peer Seyam because of illness I took the responsibility of continuing the production of our film poster. I took the images from Alex and the flat plan of the poster from Seyam and began creating. I used Adobe Photoshop to produce the poster. I follow the flat however I changed some of the colours that Seyam suggested.

This is the production of our film poster for the campaign in stages

Stage1: This is a little flat plan that I create so I could play with the arrangement of the poster

Stage 2:  I temporarily an image that I found so I could get a taster of what the finished product will look like.

First Edit Of Trailer: Social Network

When I finish our first edit of our teaser trailer I converted it into web format then uploaded  the trailer on to my Facebook profile and on to my Youtube profile. these are both social network websites. We did this to get feedback from our target audience on what they thought about the trailer and what we could do to do to improve on it.

Facebook

Youtube

First Edit Of Trailer: Blackwood Forest

This is our edit draft of our trailer. we want our audience to watch it and give use feed back on what they thought about it and what we can do to make the trailer better. I will be upload the trailer on to social network web site like Facebook and Youtube.

These are real film production details that I based mine on.

Friday 26 November 2010

Planning and Creating the Production Details

In order to make the trailer look realistic we began creating production details that will come at the beginning of the trailer. I create a simple logo for our ‘FilmWorks’ production detail. The simple logo will indicate that the production company do not have a genre of film that they specify in. I wanted to make it look very professional to the audience know that it a very first-rate production company. I looked at the convention of the trailer from our research and decided that we to use production details that will create audience expectations

I create a logo call ‘Crazy Picture’. I wanted to make this a company that based in the horror genre because I I had one thing in mind which was audience expectation. I use red because this is a very common colour in horror. It suggest fear, hate blood and maybe even romance. I chose a font that relate back to horror so when the audience see it they will immediately know what genre the film trailer is. I used Adobe Photoshop to create our production details. It was very straight forward to use because of our previous task that we have done.

Begin Editing

Today we begin editing our teaser trailer. I upload all of our footage that we shot on to iMovie on our schools apple computer. I had prevously used iMovie before so I know how to edit footage. Becuase I created the storyboard and the script the group decided that I took the lead when we started editing because I had a clear understanding and view of what the trailer will look like and how it will be structured.

The Advance portfolio brief explained that the trailer will have to be max 90 second. once we put the shoot on to chronological order we discover that the footage was to long(with production details and title included). We began cuting it down until we had reached about 2minute. Once we did this we felt that it was laking pace and suspense so we cut a lot more of the triailer. from  there We began adding music and sound FX.

We decided to use text becuase with out it the trailer looked very boring and not very exciting. The text give the trailer a more professional look and increase the enigma of the trailer.

Final Title Design For Our Production

I wanted to challenge the conventions of the horror. I thought by using grey will make the film poster  and traile look strong as it does with the dark grey. However we were concidering the colour of the the title. we dicided to use dark green as our title colour. The dark green links with the title of the film eith the word 'forest'.

Monday 22 November 2010

First title design that we are concidering

This is the title design that we are concidering for our campaign.  I have decide to use this title design for our production. The design font that I sed was from the DaFont website.  I when for a design that that stands out, I used a dark grey color I believe his create enigma the black back drop adds to the mystery that is within the title of our trailer. the grey colour also make the title look old.

Monday 15 November 2010

Photography and Film Stills

When we when out to shoot our trailer we took a  cannon digital camera with us to take picture of how our shooting went. we also took picture for our film poster that we are also creating.

Sunday 14 November 2010

Filming Day (Day One and Two)

We filmed the first section of our teaser trailer on the 10th of November. We did have some difficulty getting hold our main actor, but eventually we she can. We then went to our first location which was the house location. We shot the trailer at my house. We shot this section in the evening because we wanted to create a sense of mystery. We gave our actors the props (Champaign bottle, and the Toy bears). The weather was very close so we had to make sure that our actors and ourselves were warm.

We then filmed the second section on the 12th November. For this section we when to our second location with was the forest again we contacted the actors and we all meet up and travelled to Woodford to film it. Again the actors where give the props (Water bottle) unfortunately we were unable to get our second prop which was the hammer however when filming we use different shot that would look like she had a hammer in her hand. Throughout we used the shot list as a guild line. It also kept us organised

The footage was predominantly filmed by me with my other peers acting in the trailer. I ensured a variety of shots including handheld shots were used to create an unsettled atmosphere.

Shooting Schedule

Now that we have finished the first Stages of our planning for example our:
- Storyboard
- Shot list
- Script
-Actors and Costumes

We know have the all clear to go and shoot our trailer. I have created a shoot list for my group for when we go out to shoot. This shot list will keep us organised and set on what we are doing. We will be shooting on 2 day, the first day will be the forest location and the second day will be our house location.

Shooting Schedule

Thursday 11 November 2010

Complete Shot List

We began creating the Shot list along side our storyboard. Going through every shot I began to describe the action then the shot Description. I talked about the type of shot type we are going to use and also what the shot is doing to be like and what going to happen in the shots.

Shot list

Completed Script

Once I completed the storyboard I then created the script which will have the dialog that the actors. We will give the script to the Actors about a week before we shoot our trailer. The script is very short so it won't take a lot of long time to memorise the dialog for the trailer.

Here is a link to my script where I scanned it into Photoshop turning it into picture form then uploaded it on to my Flickr account that I create for it

Finish Script

Wednesday 10 November 2010

Uploaded The Script,Shooting Schedule, Shot List to my Flickr Account

After finishing these tasks for my planning I scanned them in to the computer converting it into a JPEG image then uploaded on to my Flickr account that I created purposely for them.

Thursday 4 November 2010

Last minute Prop Change

We have decided to change our prop that we wanted to use. Our prop was going to be an axe however we could not find a axe that was free for use to use when we shoot our trailer. The Axe was going to be our main prop in our trailer.

After a long decusion with my group member we have come to a conclusion. we have all agreed on changing our prop to a hammer. This is much more acessable for us because i have a hammer that we can use in our trailer. I will have to alter the synopsis and the storyboard however this will not cause any problem when we go and shoot our trailer for our Production camopaign.

Wednesday 3 November 2010

Planning and Producing a Title

We began creating our title for our teaser trailer and production campaign. The software we used to create the title was Adobe Photoshop. We looked at many different types of font that could relate to the genre. We got our font from a website called Dafont( http://www.dafont.com/). Photoshop was very easy to use because of our experience of using it last year in our magazine productions.
The name of our Trailer is BLACKWOOD FOREST and we wanted our title to represent the gerne of our trailer. we want it attract our target audience through the design of the front and coulours of our title. We have come up with some title designs that we are considering using for our trailer.

Different types title that we created:

Storyboard

Once I come completed the plot summary and final synosis, I  now had a clear understand and could now begin to see what the teaser trailer would look like. I used the synopsis along side me to sketch out my storyboard for our production campaign. Even though I had the synopsis beside me nothing will be given away in the storyboard.

This is a storyboard animatic that I create, this will give a basic ideal of what the teaser trailer will look like.

Tuesday 2 November 2010

Our Complete Synopsis

Once we completed our research we began refining our plot summary and eventually completing a full Synopsis.  The synopsis gives our audience a brief explanation in chronological of the film however it does not give any of the main elements of surprises away. Here is our final synopsis for our campaign.

Lucy Bower is a young innocent girl on her autumn holiday from school and is enjoying herself however every evening when the sun sets her body is taken over by an evil spirit; no one understood what it was. Her father has had enough of people talking behind his back about his daughters. One night her Father comes home from work drunk, he beings to torment her and accusing her of being evil and ends up killing her. After realising what he has done he drags the body of his daughter in to Blackwood Forest and she is never seen again. She was once an innocent little girl who was murder by her father. Her life turned upside down with abuse and pain and eventually death. However this is not the end of Lucy Bower.
Year’s later locals began to hear child-like laughter coming from the forest. People where being drawn in to the forest by the sweet childish laughter thinking a child is lost and needs help. Little did they know that the spirit of Lucy dwelt in Blackwood and swore revenge on anyone who entered Blackwood Forest where she lays? Resident’s notices that many people from the community have gone missing, locals state they last saw them last entering Blackwood Forest. Search parties where sent out to find them.

Tally marks made out from blood marks where the only thing that’s left on the tree to give the people any clues to what is happening. Blackwood Forest was abandoned by the local government and no one entered it again.
This is a story of how a little girl gets her revenge and takes out her anger on her community. You might have thought Lucy Bower was a goner, well you better think again.

Initial Plot Summary

After looking at our concepts and reach that we made we formulated initial story that will give us the skeleton of our synopsis. In our trailer we will not be using voiceovers because we want our trailer to look for realistic flow more naturally.
Lucy Bower is a young girl who loved to run about and have fun on her school holiday. Every evening an evil spirit will come over her. No one understood what it was. She was afraid of her father who came home drunk every evening. Her father has had enough of people talking behind his back and desides to put an end to things. One day he came home early and Lucy was alone, he started accused her of being evil and kills her. Her body was dragged in to Blackwood forest and never seen again. Locals began to hear child like laughter coming from the forest. People where being drawn in to the forest by the sweet childish laughter, little did they know that the spirit of Lucy dwelt in Blackwood and swore revenge on anyone who enter.

Many people began to go missing just like Lucy's father told the whole town that she when missing. They where begin murdered by Lucy with an axe in the heart of the forest and berried. The last thing they see is the long white dress that Lucy had on and the evil glance as if the devil was working through her. The Town begin to search for the missing victims but couldn't find them because they where berried underground where they were searching

Blackwood Forest was abandoned by the local government and no one entered it again.

Group Research

After splitting our concept in to sections and doing deeper research in to them, we finally brought it all together and defused our concept:

Characters

Props and Costumes

Location

All of the research that we gathered helped us create our storyboard and synopsis for our teaser trailer

Sunday 24 October 2010

Change of our location

We had to change our location because our previous owner of the location had changed his mind about us using the property to shoot. The property area was being renovated so we had to cancel our day to shoot. because of time we had to change our location.

We will still be using a forest as our location. Seyam one of my group members has found a forest location also situated in Essex, near to our first location that we where going to use. We have informed our actors about the new location.

Friday 22 October 2010

Production Details Research

When we were applying the recognisable convention to a trailer we agreed that the production details where the most important feature in the trailer. The production details will appear at the beginning and through the trailer. We will design our production details before we shoot the trailer so that we can add it to the footage when we start editing. We will using Photoshop to produce the production details.  Production details that on influence our ideas.

Planning Our Actors

From our concept we wanted to use a young girl as Unique Selling Point. She will be Acting as our killer. Alex who is a member of my group has found a little sister who is the right person to act as our killer. She is the sister of one of Alex's friends. Because she is young he has to get parental consent to use her. She has agreed to be part of the cast for our production. She also will be using her own dress as a costume. This is a big bonus for us.
We will be keeping in close contact with her brother and parents informing them with any update, informing then of when we shoot the teaser trailer and any changes that may occur.

Visit to our location

From our research we have agreed on a forest/house location. There are different type of forest location that we could use. The film that influence our location was the Wolf Man. We wanted a forest location that was roral and very old looking.

The property belong to a very close family friend. the property is called Bower House outside london. Because I know the owner of the property, I called to ask if we could use the forest location. He agreed that we could use the it however we could only use it for 4 hours. We also will be using the building.

As a group we went over to Bower House and looked at how we will use it to place our actors and the different types of shot we could get from it. this Vist boosted our ideas for are trailer.

More research in to Location and setting(Concepts)

After decussing our concepts we split the research in to sections. we spilt it so that we all could do more research in to the concept. I was assign to look in to location and setting with more depth.

Location
Horror can be set anyplace and in any time or reality. Although the classic horror setting is in some sort of remote and isolated area (a haunted house, a remote village, forrest)

Haunted house
Haunted house location a very common in horror film. This type of location will create tension, keeping the audience on their toes. The setting in this will have to be dark and set during the night to give it a much more scary feel to the film. The films that have influence me are:

Saw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFQebvkii90
Case 39
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wtgVerQuso

Forest
The forest is another great location for a horror film. many horror film use the forest when coming bad happens, blowing of the leafs create the sense of enigma. The forest changes the atmosphere of the horror and is normally set at night.

Wolfman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPieOzIA7NM

School
A school is also a very common location that is used when make a horror film. this location create a sense of realism. Costumes also contribute this realism. This type of location can attract different age but mainly ages between 16-25.

Jennifer's Body
http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi4062052889/

All of the location that I research convay the key element in horror. The location that we all agreed apon will be the forest location, we wanted to use this location because it is used in many films and believe this will attract our audience.  Because the location is common we want the audience to immediately understand what type of genre the trailer is.

Thursday 14 October 2010

Research into Horror Synopsis

In today lesson we began to look at synopsis of different films. we each looked at three different synopsis to try and understand the function of genre in films and how the concepts are defined. the synopsis briefly tell us what the film is about.

I looked at two synopsis and they where:

The last Exorcism
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1320244/synopsis

Saw VI
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1233227/synopsis

I looked at the different element of the a genre that was in the synopsis. Many horror synposis have common element that link them together. most of the have the same Plot and Stock Situations thi give the audience something to think about. They all have praganist character and antaganist character. they all share in common the sense of knowing what doing to happen, audience expections, we all know how is going to end.
The different convention that are in the film synopsis make the stoylines different for example horror theme of the film or the stock character that they used.

Directors Research

Magazine Research and Analysis

In order to make our Magazine cover express the key conventions of a magazine cover we began research the main convention that our magazine should have.

Horror Concepts

In our groups we brainstormed different concept and idea we can include in our horror campaign. we all contributed in idea for the campaign, We came up with ideas that we all agreed on.

Firstly we looked at different locations we could film our trailer. we wanted a place that would match our other ideas like our props and character etc. we researched many different horror film and identified the mean locations that are used in the horror.  Our first location was a forest, this sought of location is very common in many horror. the second location was a old abandoned house, the old house would create a real scary feel. Finally we though about modernising our horror trailer b using a estate location in a block of flats this location may create realism.

Props
We also considered props that we could use, we dicussed different horror movie that we've all seen and talked about the props they used in the films. Firstly prop like knifes, chainsaws and guns came to mind but we all agreed a axe as our first prop in our trailer. Our second idea was to use mask this was influence films like friday 13th.

Characters and Costumes
we research different film and look at he characters. We wanted to create our unique selling point via the character. We considered using little girl like the film the ring, we wanted a character that looked very vunerable however has a deadly secret of killing people. then we looked at costumes. In the different trailers that we looked at the dominant customes with was white dresses torn clothing for the antaganist character.

Applying The Recognisable Convention To Trailers

In order to apply the recognisable conventions to trailers, we came together in our groups to complete a task where we had to came up with ideas about how to market and promote a film call BloodShed High. Me group come togther and began planing what we are going to do.

We where given story board sheet where we could fill in the section. From our research on the conventions of trailer we began to decuss some ideas of what convention we where going to use.

We first look at the production detials. first dicussed many production companys however we agreed on a production company called Twisted pictures that is well known for producing horror film and have a big fan group. Looking at different trailers we show that the production detial are at the beginning of the trailer this create brand awareness for audience expectations, The audience will see Twisted Pictures and automatically know it will be a horror genre film.
We put our head together and come up with our UPS (Unique Selling Point). We wanted to have a USP that is not common in a horror genre. so we can decided to make the film in 3D becuase this is not common in many horror movies.

Actors and the Director was also dicussed by the group, we know that Actors sell movies so we wanted to make the Actors and director standing out. we came to a conclusion that the actors names will appear after a blackout in big bold letters. The actors that we used where Megan Fox becuase she is a very well known actriss and Michael Cera. Director sell film so we used a director named Brian de Palma, he is onw of the best directors.

The most important feature would the use of enigma code. In the trailer we would be using many black out having only the sound in the background. We wanted the audience to visualise what is going on hieghtening aticipation, getting the audience engaging in the trailer making then what to watch the film.

This task was very useful in helping understand the importants of how to arrange the different conventions in the tailer for example the production details at the beginning or the release date ate the end of the trailer.  From this task we can go away in my group with a clear understanding on how to apply the recognisable conventions to trailers and start applying it to our own trailer.

Analysis a Trailer

In our lesson today we began to go through different trailer from different genre. We looked at the conventions of a professional trailer and how trailer appeal to the audience. The trailer is an extremely important tool in marketing a film to the audience. Here are the conventions that we saw in the trailers:

- Release date

The release data on most of the trailer is seen at the end of the trailer. The release data left to the end of the trailer will make the audience want to see the film because of the exciting feature in the film. The release date is key for example a film that is about christmas will not be release in the summer time it will be release at a time that is suitable and will get the audience to see it. this also lines to the genre of the movie, for example a horror movie date would be release 2 weeks before Halloween.

- Production details

The production details are also very important. A company that is popular and is known for making great films will get the audience of that genre to watch it because of the previous successful films that where made. Lion gate entertainment is well known for their action and adventure films and the audience will recognise what genre of film the trailer is going to be about.

- The actors staring in the film and the director
Many people who watch films go and watch the film because of the actors or the actors name that is displayed in the trailer , this is a great way in marketing the film trailer. Some actor might be know for playing a character that is link to the genre of the film. famous actors and directors will sell capture the audience Russell Crowe is also known for playing a protagonist character in action based genre film like, Gladiator and Blood Oath. Directors are also Key when promoting a film trailer.

- USP(unique selling point)
Another Convention is the uniques selling point of the trailer. This is what sells the trailer, the director can use this to sell the movie. in this trailer the UPS is the female character that has committed the crime.

This create confusion for the audience because the and make them want to find out more about the character. The antagonist character is played mostly by a male character however the unique selling point could be the use of a female.

- Rapid Shots and Best bits
The audience are engaged by the use of rapid and quick shot which heighten anticipation making the audience want to watch the film, the rapid shot include the best bits of the film. The trailer builds to a climax via the rapid shot and use of black out making the audience recreate the action in their minds creating a sense of enigma.

Also slow shot can be used to create a sense of realism allowing you to get a clearer view of the trailer.

- Music and Sound
The music in the trailer can give away clues as to want the film the trailer is advertising. loud screeching violin string and drum can automatically make us think of horror. The music play a big role in  creating atmosphere in the trailer.

- Voice-over
The voice over is used to aid the audiences understanding of the film and also add anticipation. this can be used as a form of advertising the trailer, the male voice in the trailer builds a sense of mystery and suspence. this can be used as a marjeting device. The vocabulary and sentence structure needs to be consider when targeting a cetain audience.

Looking at the different convention of a trailer has shown me how film are promoted and how important certian convention are. Doing this research will help me and my group when we create our teaser trailer.
